Background

A multi-national beverages organisation headquartered in Europe seeks to improve upon representation of diverse talent in senior management. With priority given to identifying female talent and with a strong focus on Asian nationals our remit is to identify ‘best in class’ Chinese, Hong Kong, Korean, Indian, Taiwanese, Singaporean, Malaysian and Vietnamese professionals with previous mature market and/or Asian pan regional experience. Of particularly high interest is regional talent currently overseas. The vast majority of the focus falls into the commercial functions of sales & marketing and M&A.

The Asia Pacific Zone is a high commercial growth focus for our client and as such it is recognized that there is now a need to increase the size of the future leader high potential program with a focus on Asian nationals and females within it. Our client seeks to increase the bench strength and existing talent pool of national and regional talent within the organisation across APAC.

Brief:

The identification, delivery and subsequent hiring of high potential individuals onto the 2015/16 ‘HIPO’ program, meeting client-specified requirements in terms of gender, nationality, age and education.

Challenges

Professional women in this region that meet the level of experience and seniority required by our client are fewer in number than men and less likely to be visible in the public domain. Additionally, the global identification of potential ‘returning nationals’ is not without inherent difficulties, however these areas of search are specialist practice for Manners Maclean and STANDOUT.

Parameters of Search

Further to performing a global competitor overview with organograms, our research teams mapped all relevant APAC end markets as well as global/regional hubs for female professionals working in commercial and finance related functions within top tier organisations across industry sectors including FMCG, pharmaceutical, banking and global management consultancies from within and beyond a list of target companies provided by our client.

Delivery & Results

A sound knowledge of our client’s business, strategies and upcoming needs within the APAC region, led to a number of selected candidates being presented immediately for consideration for full screening and competency based interviews.

Thus far we have identified more than 150 individuals relevant to our client’s brief from which a short-list of circa 20 was presented to our client at the end of ‘phase one’.

Following completion of the first phase of the market map and subsequent screening, three regional candidates have already been hired with more at final interview stage, these include Regional Brand, Digital and Commercial Directors, Indochina and South Korea.

In-depth market knowledge and an extensive operating base combined with database interrogation, extensive networking and activation of all potential sources became the starting point for a broad search which commenced in March 2015 and is ongoing.
