Sub Saharan Africa – Pharma/ CHC – Manufacturing/ SC – Pipelining Regional Female Talent

Case Study

Background

A multi-national consumer healthcare company headquartered in Europe sought to improve upon representation of women in operations in sub-Saharan Africa. Our initial remit was to map the region for female talent in manufacturing/supply chain.

At a time of double digit market growth across the SSA Region, our client sought to increase the bench strength of their African talent pipeline with specific reference to gender balance. Further to an assignment undertaken on behalf of a different organization in the region we were able to advise that that there was a need for a proactive approach in sourcing female talent to improve upon the existing pool of national and regional talent in manufacturing across sub-Saharan Africa.

Brief:

To locate and map commercially relevant individuals, identifying as female, working within the ESA region or indigenous to the region and working internationally.

Challenges

Women in this region are less likely to be visible in the public domain and the pool of women in manufacturing and supply chain is undoubtedly relatively small. The assignment was largely network and referral led.

Parameters of Search

Further to performing a global competitor overview with organograms, our research team mapped all ESA end markets as well as global/regional hubs for female, African professionals working in ops in CHC and Pharma.

In-depth market knowledge and an extensive operating base combined with database interrogation, extensive networking and activation of the STANDOUT network yielded swift results.

Results

We identified more than 400 professional women relevant to our client’s brief. Following completion of the market map and subsequent screening, four female regional candidates were hired, including a Production Manager for West Africa, an Operations Planning Manager for Kenya and Director of Logistics, South Africa.
